One of the major directions of the international strategy of the University of Pécs is the
development of the Asian university connections and within this it is of great importance to
promote multiple cooperation activities with Chinese universities.
In this spirit the University of Pécs has been searching for cooperation possibilities with
Chinese partners for many years which entailed the initiative of a successful network with
the Nanjing Audit University. In 2011 an agreement of collaboration was signed by the two
universities, then a group of Chinese students arrived at the Faculty of Law for a six-month
training. The interest of the students from Nanjing regarding the part time training has
increased and now not only the Faculty of Law hosts students but also the Faculty of
Business and Economics, nearly 10 students per semester.
The two universities determined to broaden the scope for cooperation and raise connections
to a higher level. This entails the establishment of a cultural and research centre named
Sino-Hungarian Academic, Research and Cultural Centre (SHARCC), in September 2012
Dr. Bódis József rector participated in the opening ceremony in Nanjing. Now the local
SHAARC at the University of Pécs has also been launched, this will provide the Chinese
and Hungarian student exchange, the propagation of Chinese language and culture, the
training of Chinese students in Hungary and the implementation of the common research
and teaching projects with Chinese colleagues in the future.
The ceremonial inaugural of the Pécs SHARCC was at the Faculty of Law on 12th April
2013. Dr. Bódis József, rector of the University of Pécs and Yin Ping, vice-chairman of the
Nanjing Audit University gave addresses. The high-ranking delegation from Nanjing, the
leadership of the UP, the leaders of the primarily affected faculties, the head of the UP Asia
Centre and the here staying exchange students also participated in the event.
During its program the delegation from Nanjing is expected to have further discussions with
the administration of the UP to strengthen and widen collaborations.
